Tuesday Announcements 5/27: Mitch Matthews of FlowHause, Cam and Ying's Amazing Vault Episode, Concert Season is HERE (Giveaway), Fireweed Market, ACS Tastemaker, and This Week's Hoppy Guest

Erik Nilsson

From the football field to craft beer innovation, this week's update spans Salt Lake City's diverse community landscape. We've recently shared Mitch Matthews' compelling journey from BYU football star and NFL player to successful entrepreneur. His newest venture, Flow House in Pleasant Grove, builds community around wellness practices including hot treatment, cold therapy, and breathwork. Matthews offers profound insights about authentic community building that transcends mere social media metrics.

Summer has officially arrived in Salt Lake with the kickoff of concert season! We're celebrating by giving away tickets to Hardy's performance at Utah Credit Union Amphitheater. The cultural awakening continues with the Fireweed Market at HK Brewing this Saturday, featuring over 50 local artists, food trucks, and beverages in an all-ages friendly environment. This creative marketplace represents everything we love about Salt Lake's community spirit.

Looking ahead, our conversation with Chad Hopkins of Hopkins Brewing drops this Thursday. Recorded inside the bustling brewery itself, Chad shares how he created one of Sugar House's most beloved establishments. Hopkins Brewing embodies the perfect trifecta - exceptional craft beer, outstanding in-house food menu, and community-focused programming every night of the week. We're also continuing our Vault series this Saturday with more authentic Salt Lake stories. As we embrace the warming weather, we're also supporting the American Cancer Society's fundraising efforts - a cause close to my heart. Check the show notes to contribute to this important work and join us at the Fork Cancer event on August 8th.

What is up everybody and welcome back to another Tuesday Update. I am your host of the Small Lake City Podcast, eric Nilsen. A handful of updates this week. The new episodes since the last Tuesday Update are number one the episode with Mitch Matthews. He is someone if you're familiar, was one of the star receivers during the last few years of Coach Mendenhall's era. Before Sataki took over as head coach. He went on to play in the NFL, started a successful pest control business, but has now started his own new business called Flow House down in Pleasant Grove where he's building a community around hot treatment, cold treatment and breath work to help bring people together and grow a community there. Lots of life lessons there, lots of great points about building community and how hard it is and how it can take time and doesn't just rely on followers and popularity. Also, part two of episode four of the Vault series with Cameron and Ying Nance is live. This is one of my favorite raw stories that I've had on the podcast and they're two of my really good friends that I also got to see the story happen, live as it did. So great story about finding love internationally and then finding themselves in Utah and being entrepreneurs and building where they stand here. Also, kilby Block Party kicked off the concert season this year and I'm happy to announce that we are giving away some tickets for the first show at the Utah Credit Union Amphitheater, also known as USANA Amphitheater, to go see Hardy live there this Thursday. Today's the last day to enter the giveaway, so make sure to go check Instagram and enter on the post there I'm going to be going. I'm so excited for live music. It's been a long winter and so grateful that we can finally get out and enjoy some live music together.

So also coming up this Saturday, may 31st, is the Fireweed Market at HK Brewing. So outside of HK Brewing they have a huge parking lot that they're going to have an art market where there's going to be 50 plus different art vendors. There's going to be food trucks. There's going to be 50 plus different art vendors. There's going to be food trucks. There's going to be drinks and beverages. It's an all ages event. So if you want to bring the kids, bring the family, make sure to do so. I'm going to be there. I specifically love local art markets and supporting local artists. That will be from 3 to 8 pm this Saturday at HK Brewing, which is 370 Aspen Ave, by the Tesla Repair Place, pretty close to Target on 3rd West. So come check that out for sure. And also, and most importantly, want to announce this week's guest.

So one of my favorite places to grab a beer, especially in Sugar House, is Hopkins Brewing. In my opinion, it's one of the places that has a full triple threat as far as any brewery goes. They have amazing beer. They are one of the few breweries that has their own menu in-house Great menu that Chad Hopkins has been able to build, and their programming is amazing. Every night they have something going on and truly support the community. So we're going to hear more from Chad Hopkins himself about the story of how he started to build chat, about the story of how he built Hopkins Brewing and some of the plans he has for the future. So great guy, great episode. We actually ended up recording right in the middle of the brewery itself. So check in for that. We'll be releasing this Thursday and I will see you there. Also, the next episode of the Vault series will be releasing this Saturday. But yeah, lots of great things coming up this week, so stay tuned.

One more quick note You've probably seen the ads run on episodes, but I have been nominated to be a tastemaker for the American Cancer Society to help raise some money for a great cause. Cancer is something that has unfortunately impacted my life and a lot of the people around me that I know and care about. Some have survived it, some have not, so click the link in the show notes to make a donation. I am extremely grateful if you do, or if you buy tickets to go to the Fork Cancer event coming up on August 8th. Please reach out if you have any questions or comment below and I'll get back to you.

Speaker 1:

Any donation is very accepted and very appreciated. So if you can, please donate below. But besides that, good weather is here. It's starting to get really warm, so take advantage of that time to get outside before it gets a little bit too hot to do so. Start to build on that tan from the pasty whiteness that settled in over the winter. But I will see you this Thursday on the episode with Chad Hopkins, saturday at both HK Brewing for the Fireweed Market and the Vault episode. So enjoy a great week and I will see you soon.
