What is up everybody and welcome back to another Tuesday update. It's me, eric Nilsen, the host of the Small Lake City podcast, here with a couple important updates. Number one today is Tuesday, november 5th, aka Election Day. So if you're listening to this and it's before 8pm and you haven't voted yet, make sure to go to a polling area and make sure to vote. A lot of blood has been spilled and a lot of people have sacrificed their lives so that we can have the democratic state that we're in, to be able to vote and have a say in who runs our government. So make sure to do so. But also, if you're curious about what is going on politically in Utah, especially for some of these a little more local races that aren't Trump versus Kamala Harris. The most recent episode with Brian Schott goes over a lot of this.
Speaker 0:Now, brian is someone who knows Utah politics arguably better than anyone. He's been covering it for decades. He's passionate about it. He was the contributor for the Salt Lake Tribune for numerous years and is now doing his own thing called Utah Political Watch. Now Utah Political Watch is a newsletter. It is a blog for keeping you up to date of all of the things going on politically in Utah and Salt Lake. But one thing I love about it is just like PBS, it is funded by viewers like you. There are no huge advertisers. There's nobody coming in and strong-arming him into saying what they want him to say. It is all his own words and is supported by us. So if that's something you're looking forward to, utahpoliticalwatchcom, go check it out and make sure you subscribe. Throw him a couple dollars if you can, because that is going to be giving us a lot of this political content moving forward.
Speaker 0:Also coming up this weekend is Utah versus BYU at Rice-Eccles. Now it's been almost 15 years since BYU and Utah have played each other in the same conference. Now, unless you've been living under a rock, you know that Utah and BYU seasons are very different. Utah is having a down year as they go into the Big 12 and it's unfortunate to see and BYU is having an undefeated season so far. So we can anticipate what it would look like. But if anybody who's ever watched a rivalry game knows, anything can happen. So I'm hoping that the Utes can pull it off.
Speaker 0:And also, but most importantly, coming up on November 14th, I'm throwing an event with the wonderful women at HK Brewing called Friendsgiving. Now one thing I hear from so many people, as I've talked to people about Salt Lake and generally, is people don't know how to meet new people. That doesn't necessarily have to be romantically, but people want to be able to make friends and after college it's hard to do so. Not everybody wants to go to Lake Effect every weekend. Not everybody wants to go join a rum club. Not everybody else wants to be to Lake Effect every weekend. Not everybody wants to go join a rum club. Not everybody else wants to be on dating apps. But they want to find a way to organically meet new people. So one thing I'm going to try to consciously do moving forward is host events where people can come out, meet new people and have a great atmosphere to do so.
Speaker 0:So next Thursday, november 14th, at HK Brewing, be holding this event. It's going to be amazing. We're going to have thank you for the short notice and Levain Bakery coming in to make leftover Thanksgiving sandwiches one of my favorite things in the world after Thanksgiving to do with the leftovers. We're also going to have Sid's Brims coming in to have a hat bar where you can make your own custom hat or trucker hat. We're going to have some small Lake City logos, some other fun patches that you can make as well as having Adorn. You come in and have some forever jewelry as well. So come get a friendship bracelet with a friend. Come have a great sandwich, come have a great cocktail, make a hat. It's going to be a great time, so make sure that's on your calendar. November 14th, 6.30 pm at HK Brewing over by Target on Third West. Make sure you're there, come say hi, it's going to be a great time and I'm looking forward to it and also look out for more events coming up. Lastly, I want to announce this week's guest.
Speaker 0:So over the past 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 years, the nightlife, bar and food scene in Salt Lake has changed immensely, and if there's one new spot that people consistently say is one of their favorites, it is Bar Gnome. Now Bar Gnome is in Central Ninth Area, right by one of my favorite places, central Ninth Market, and technically consists of both Bar Gnome and Water Witch both great places to go, whether you want food or a drink, or both. But I sit down with Cliff and Crystal Now Cliff is the, the manager of Barnum and Crystal is the creative brainchild that's put together all of these pop-ups and events and guest bartenders. So we talk a lot about Barnum and how it came to be, a lot of the culture in Salt Lake around nightlife and a little bit more about them and their stories and why they're passionate about doing this. So make sure to check that one out that will be releasing this Saturday Wherever you prefer to listen to podcasts or on YouTube.
Speaker 0:Definitely mark your calendar. It's going to be a good one, but in the meantime, enjoy a week, go out and vote. I will see you next Thursday at the event at HK Brewing and yeah, see ya.
